Disk types (caliper clearance vs deep rim)
Multi-piece wheels often offer different disk types to balance brake caliper clearance with a deeper outer rim.
O Disk (deep rim)
Maximizes outer rim depth. Designed for cars with standard (OEM-size) calipers.
A Disk (standard)
The standard balance of rim depth and brake clearance.
R Disk (big caliper)
Sacrifices rim depth to clear large performance brake calipers.
Manufacturing methods
Casting
Molten aluminum is poured into a mold. Cost-effective, allows for complex designs.
Forging
Solid aluminum is pressed under high pressure. Extremely strong and lightweight, but expensive.
Flow forming
A hybrid process where a cast rim is spun and stretched. Approximates forged strength at a lower cost.
Wheel structures
1-piece
Cast or forged as a single unit. Lightweight and rigid.
2-piece
Center disk and rim barrel are separate, welded or bolted. Allows fine offset tuning.
3-piece
Inner barrel, outer lip, and center face. Highly customizable and repairable.
